    The book is several years old I don't have it with me. I'm going to get an amd 64 bit 2048 meg ram and 40 gig hard disc.

    snort is typically a UNIX intrusion detection utility that has been superceded by tripwire and the like. I'd leave it on the shelf if I were you. It's open source... the book is out-of-date, as is the software.
