so I need some scanning software. I have a fairly basic USB scanner(canon LiDE 200), and I need a program that I can scan pages and save them as a multipage pdf.

    vuescan from www.hamrick.com.

Nothing better on the market. Very Good Stuff, better than most of what is delivered with new scanners.

Only $80 for a lifetime unlimited license.

vuescan works on msft, mac, and linux OS and supports many hundreds of scanner models. It's quite literally the last scanning software you will ever, ever need to buy.

It's also a free download although scans made with an unlicensed copy will have visible watermarking applied.

    try it out.

Just get the Twain driver and use any app. I suggest IrfanView.
