ive had two nb's with bd roms for the past few years.
i like watching bd's in my lappy but the problem has always been weak audio, especially with bd using dolby true hd. this issue has been posted on the forums by numerous people including myself.
i have found a program though that resolves these audio issues. i used to use hp quickplay and powerdvd9 ultra both by cyberlink. they are both good programs and have many very good features, esp powerdvd. however, like most bd software they have poor hd audio support/decompression.
now i use arcsoft totalmedia theatre 3 platinum. i first heard of this in a bd rom forum. and it is tru what the guy said there, it resolves the low audio output found in other bd sofware, presumably by properly decoding hd audio.
its not as full featured as powerdvd 9 ultra, but its video rendering is very good and seems more stable- not to mention the hd audio thing.
    just wanted to share

Right click on the volume icon on the taskbar, then go to playback devices, then double click on the HDMI out, then the Enhancements tab and there should be an option for "Loudness Equalization" that will boost quiet parts and lower loud parts dynamically. And MPC-HC will not play BD-ROM's.

    thanks for the info.
but loudness equalization did not work to boost audio with my former bd software.
the reason i think that arcsoft totalmedia theatre 3 is able to play bd audio well is bec it properly transcodes lpcm, which other software programs seems to have difficulty with.
