We already have about 8 million XP vs. Vista threads here... do a search.

Here, I'll do it for you: http://www.notebookreview.com/searc...F;GIMP:0000FF;FORID:11&hl=en&btnAction=SEARCH

Or better yet, since you already have the machine... why not try it for a few days and decide for yourself. Make sure it has SP1 installed before evaluating Vista.

If you decide to go XP, see the HP forum's sticky threads for installation instructions.

Absolutely. Seven year old OS's just fly on modern gear. In fact, I'd install Windows for Workgroups 3.11 if I were you. That'll run so fast you won't even be able to see it.

Seriously though, quit listening to what you "hear." Try it out for yourself and see what you think. Your notebook. Your OS. Your choice.

Ignore the sarcastic responses and go with Vista. At least you'll be working on an OS released in this century.

Wasn't XP released in this century also? More specifically, in 2001?

Just try out Vista, holyking. Not EVERYONE gets frustrated with Vista, in spite of what the media seems to want us to believe.

yahhh...One avid user of my software (WinBubble) said, after Reading my tips, here, he decide to try Vista and after that, he never use XP again! If you don't believe me then don't. :D

The dv6810us has 3gb of RAM right? That is more then plenty to run Vista smoothly.

(My dad actually bought that laptop this morning, but I haven't used it yet. :) )

Inflation. A century is only worth about 3 years now.

You’ll never get WFW / 3.x on a newer notebook, it just won’t happen. Never-ending IO errors with chipsets and peripherals, you name it – it just won’t work.
Better of choosing an easy linux distro like mint/ubuntu if you want to fly on a newer notebook, and there again you will spend a few hours/days getting the correct drivers.

There is your problem. Most likely the PC came with so much junk. I suggest you do a clean install. You will notice a huge difference in speed and performance.
But youll need a retail copy of Vista.
