is it normal to see red x's and errors in the event viewer even though there is nothing wrong with the computer?
-
I guess, Yes!!!!!! I had a couple of them.. one being something to do with the error dump or whatever.. saying there is no space for that crash dump thing.. but my comp was as good as ever.. just to clear it up though, another member suggested me to set it to minidump, and the error was gone.. but system performance has been the same before, during, after... so there.. just to give you an example... but u may want to google the error just to make sure it isn't something building up....

If you are running XP, this might help. It is very similar in Vista, only there are a lot more logs.

My pc accumulates lots of errors in diagnostics-performance.

It is pretty normal to have "red x's". I get one about a parallel port on every startup because there are no devices. Well, duh!

As an end user you're perceiving nothing wrong with the computer but the event viewer doesn't lie.
As was previously mentioned, continue working with your computer normally and refer to the event viewer as a diagnostic tool. Don't use it as a list of problems to be addressed as you'll be in front of your PC all day, not to forget you'll probably break something -
If you are having a lot of issues then I would look into them. However, if your computer is operating normally I would not worry about it. I clear mine out from time to time so that if I do experience any issues, I don't have thousands of entries to browse through.

I look at the event viewer when I have had a problem, to gather diagnostic information. I also look now and again just to see what it thinks is going on. In the latter case I usually just look and think "how utterly uninteresting".
