The middle trackpoint button of my T400 makes my screen go blank only when clicking just it, briefly, but when I move the mouse/touchpad it resumes to the login screen.

Sounds like possibly loose wiring (although I don't know off-hand how one gets from the touchpad down front to the wiring in back); is it possible that pressing on the touchpad causes the fascia around the keyboard to flex, which might convey movement to the wiring going up the back of the lid?

Still sounds physical to me, like loose wiring or a component that's about to fail.

me too...sounds like more than a loose wire, maybe a short to me...when you're touching the keypad, you're completing a ground. If you can, remove the touchpad and see if the issue repeats.

well now... if i hold down f3 and fn for a second and then press the media button above the play button it starts up the laptop ie fan spinning etc. then if i press esc it boots to winows?? but if i shut it down doesnt restart. jut took the whole thing apart and reconnected everythihng nothing was loose and nothing seemed wrong.. hard to say of course..

With all due respect, that sounds like one physically messed up computer - i.e., it sounds like there's some sort of bizarre short somewheres that has the accidental result of causing start-up using an odd combination of keys. Kudos for having the patience to figure that key combo out, though! :D

    Try, in order:

Reset bios to default (worth a try but debatable worth)

Remove power cord, and battery. Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds. Reinsert power adapter and try start up

Open up and remove bios battery (sometimes impossible as laptops will sometimes solder them in)

well i fixed this thing... wow what a pain, pulled the mobo un-soldered the battery use shorting pins to clear all power from all points of the board. put it back together with a modded external battery i could remove at will for temp purposes.

after all this i was able to blind flash the bios and now it works perfectly.. wow what a pain. they inisisted they wanted this thing fixed im not sure why, so whatever i charged em for it lol
