i just got my laptop back after 3 weeks of waiting. i took it to best buy for repair and they sent it to where ever they send computers for repair. on the reciept i have it says that they replaced the motherboard and updated the bios. i turn it on and find all my data is still there. but when i check my connection it says i am connected to an unidentified network.

after some digging i find that the nameless network is a hamachi network(i downloaded it for a program). i am also being told that my wireless adapter is not working properly. system restore did not fix the problem. what should i do? do io get rid of the hamachi network adapter?

yes, unless you need it, get rid of it.

Also, what OS, adapter, router, etc

does your Device Manager show your card? Does it say it's working properly?

The hamachi may have been made your default. Try again after it's deleted and let us know the status!!

    OS:Vista Home Premium

    Adapter: Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection #2
the device manager shows the card and says its working properly.

no router but a wireless ActionTec modem from qwest.

speaking of qwest, i have a cd which i used to add the home network to my laptop to begin with. do i need to use that again?

i got rid of the hamachi adapter but no luck. i tried to uninstall it but an error is stopping it.

    try deleting network #1(connection)

see if it will then use the intel........

was it working properly b4 you had to send it in for repairs? Was it connecting to the intel card? did you have to use the disk originally to connect......

Hopefully someone that knows something about that modem will jump in and help.....

there is no number 1 connection listed. it was working fine before the repairs. would the replacement of the motherboard cause something to go wrong?

What is the Hamachi? Your mention that it is a "network adaptor". Is it a network on your "network list" (Start > Connect to).

its not the network list. i had a program that used hamachi and a regular internet connection to work. i guess you could say that hamachi is a connection for those that cant connect using an IP connection.

You may want to re-start in safe mode and try deleting the Hamachi program.

    Can you disconnect from Hamachi?

Just connect a cat5 (ethernet cable) from your laptop ethernet port to one of the ethernet port of the router.

wirelessman- i can connect to the internet via a direct connection to the modem. but i connect to an unidentified network. i would like to connect to my home network (2wire993) wirelessly. there are no networks listed in the connect to window.

bwright1979- safe was a no go for hamachi. got the same error.
