I installed Vista on my laptop recently, updated, and installed the latest drivers for everything.
Also i follow some tutorials to improve vista performance. Not that i needed for my daily activity, because it's not slow, i don't have any drivers/hardware issues, apart from some software not fully compatible with vista.

So I decided to install uefa euro 2008 demo. The performance was terrible, really bad. The funny thing is that i run the same game on XP on high details without any problems and on vista i can't even run on medium settings.
    Is this normal?
Did SP1 improve the performance for you guys or is just a bunch of security updates?
I can't test SP1 because wave 1 has not been released yet.

SP1 improves some of the performance but it DOES not improve the performance in games.

New to Vista? You have my sympathy. :p My advice is to go back to Windows XP, games run much faster under that environment. I tried Vista as a gaming OS and it was terrible. And my comp has the muscle to play games.

And as far as SP1 goes, most of the test reviews that I have seen say that at most it provides a couple percent improvement at most. And as previously stated, I don't think it had anything to do with gaming.

XP is best for gaming/enthusiasts/buisness( as in real buisness (MS, AOL, Coke)

Vista is best for Average Home User :p

This might seem dumb, but is it XP and Vista on the same computer? I can't tell from the way you said that.

If it is the same computer, that seems like too big of a handicap for it to be Vista, rather sounds like a video driver.

Probably, if he only has 1GB of RAM it would suck though.
You often see people crying over vista's performances because "it offers less performances than my old XP comp!" and when you analyse the 2 computers, the XP computers is 4 times as powerfull
