EDIT : Problem fixed , managed to get new software, even thought it said it was v1.0 it was actually v1.10 and it works with Win7 x64 :)

I have a buffalo external hdd 1tb , it comes with power management software, but it does not work in Win7 x64 , I have checked the buffalo website and cannot find a x64 version and their are a few other owners having the same problem.

The external hdd does not have a power switch and i dont want to have to keep pulling the power/usb cable out the shut it down.

I have had a look thought Win7 power management and cannot see a way to power down just the external hdd.

Any help will be appreciated :)

What about using Windows USB controller (device manager) to power the port down to save the power? You can decide which port this external HDD has been attached to checking through the device manager.

    cheers ...

The usb device are already ticked to "allow the computer to turn the usb off"

And in change power plan the only option is allow the computer to suspend the usb ports and it is already enabled.
