I am considering buying a new laptop, which does not contain an OS. I have an old laptop I no longer use that came with xp HOME preinstalled, thus i do not have the original xp cd anywhere. I realise it is against the license agreement to install xp on more than one computer at a time, but i will be disgarding my old laptop so I shouldn't be breaking any laws.

Is it possible to create a windows CD (with SP2) when you don't have the original CD? How do I do this and install it on my new laptop?

    thanks

edit: oh wait, i just read that it isn't legal afterall...

    bah

Well even if you did it anyway, I don't think it will be possible. XP Home can only be installed onto one computer. Once you activate it on that computer, that WinXP cd can only be used on that computer. It won't let you activate on the other. You have to call Microsoft and they'll give you some phone code to allow it.

It you purchased a computer that was preinstalled with XP home, you cant transfer the license or the OS to another computer. The original computer was activated with the current license and if its an OEM will only activate on a similiar computer. You can try to transfer the entire hard drive, if the interface is the same. Still may have activation issues. GL
