Without knowing the specific model, it is hard to say whether the drive is lightscribe unless you customized it on HP's website with a lightscribe drive. There should be a software for making the labels if it is a lightscribe drive. I think it is called Sure Thing Labler. As someone who has owned a lightscribe drive, they are not that great in my opinion. Took 30 mintues to burn a list of songs onto a disc. Plus the discs are more expensive. I'll just use a marker for now. They are supposed to be coming with a faster version of lightscribe. We'll see if that turns up. Good Luck.

If it's a lightscribe drive, just look on the front of the drive, and see if it says "lightscribe" or something similar.

Its does not say lightscribe on the drive on my dv1000. But there is a sticker that says lightscribe by where the windows sticker is ect. My model on my dv1000 is TSS Tcorp CD/DVD TS-532M. As far as the software, my dv1000 came with Sonic digital media plus v7. This does buring of cds and dvds and also takes care of lightscribe. Hope this helps you out.
