is there a program out there that auto detects my current drivers and finds an update for them (if any are available), rather than me having to look up every manufacturer one by one and checking for them?

Notebook drivers are rarely updated. So it's good to check with the manufacturer occasionally.

I tried drivermax. The old adage is if it ain't broke, don't fix it. After using drivermax I ran into some errors. Nothing stopped working, but I got error messages with my wireless card.

Programs that automatically find your drivers can cause problems and are on more than one occasion actually useless.
You are best off to find drivers on the manufacturers websites, download and install them on your own manually.
At the very least until these programs for finding drivers for everything are properly calibrated/perfected.

I had no discernible issues with keeping my drivers updated really.
