I have a hp nc8430 notebook with patiot 2 g memory, and a 160 perpendicular hard drive. This is the second time i have lost the MBR both time it happen right after doing a disk clean and defrag. Not a major big deal, but I am startig to get worry that my drive may be failing, even though it is only about 2 months old. I have done stress test on the system and they all ways pass. Has anyone seen anything like this before, if so how did you address it.

    Thanks

Hahaha, this happens right after you mess with the harddrive and filesystem stucture with a disk clean program, and you think its the Hd failing? Sounds a heck of a lot like that program is screwing up the partition table.

    What program is this?

I actually have been to impatient to do a full defrag using windows.

Most other apps are must faster and better.

Try other defrag apps, maybe then it won't happen.

What programs would you suggest for clean up and defrag.

I'd definitely avoid Windows' default defragger. A colleague of mine recently lost everything on his harddrive because that defragger screwed up (ok, he cancelled it halfway though, but it should be able to handle that)

I personally use O&O Defrag, but that's not free (other than a fwe months free trial)

Anyway, I'd definitely keep an eye on your harddrive. It is possible that it's failing.
