This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

    well i always had show all files including system files in xp so now i am using win7 with the same setting but the difference is that i get to see a nice Desktop.ini file on my desktop which i never had in xp

    Yes I know and I dont expect it to be perfect - I am just saying at the moment there is some strange little things to correct. I also wish microsoft would spend more time on For instance making a kick disk defragmentor built in as keeping your system running smoothly is more important than them spending time on upgraging paint etc.

    they allready have a great one in vista. it's not visual at all, but automagic and working good. there is a thread with a detailed interview about it somewhere on this forum. i've read it some days ago. no clue where :)

    Im not impressed with the one in Win7, its very slow and nothing compared to diskeeper etc. Can it only be set to run at certain scheduled times and not always in the background as you can with diskeeper?

    oh about the desktop.ini file - well i just deleted it and it never came back.

    It should be a hidden file, so you can choose to not reveal hidden / system files and it`ll go away.
    At least, in XP it does that...and Vista.

    Yeah, I've always had a desktop.ini file in XP and Vista whenever I enabled viewing hidden/system files and folders. I don't think this is new.
