    Hi,
I assume you are using windows7.
Personally I stopped using AVG when Microsoft security Essentials became free.

There is another Microsoft free product too, Microsoft Safety Scanner. You go to the web page, run the scanner. It is constantly updated.

Great suggestions, if it turns out you do not have a virus or malware, have you tried a different browser? If you are using IE 8 or 9 try running it w/o add ons

Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Internet Explorer(No Addons)

Ok I think I have rid my pc of all the malware after scanning it in safety mode etc. But now my browser is diffirent. I have internet explorer 8 on the windows 7 and it has a grey look now and certain buttons don't work the same anymore. Probably a small adjustment available but I don't know where I can do that..

I would recommend a reset of Internet Explorer -
Open Internet Explorer by clicking the Start button , and then clicking Internet Explorer.

Click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options.
Click the Advanced tab, and then click Reset.
Select the Delete personal settings check box if you would like to remove browsing history, search providers, Accelerators, home pages, and InPrivate Filtering data.
In the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box, click Reset.
When Internet Explorer finishes applying default settings, click Close, and then click OK.
If this does not fix the remaining issues, You may need to reinstall Internet Explorer 8 ( Download Internet Explorer 8 - Microsoft Windows) or upgrade to IE 9

Thanks I have worked that out^

So it seems IE9 is really good. But I just really love the layout of IE8 and how you can work with tabs, favorites etc. I heard somebody say that with IE9 you can make everything the same as in IE8 is that true?

Some malware will set itself up as a proxy server to inject ads and such into your web browsing, and that's likely what happened. When the malware was removed, you couldn't connect to the proxy because it was gone, so IE and other browsers couldn't get online, but because the other programs didn't use the proxy they worked.

I had to deal with a real bad infection today for a friend. malware with a rootkit to boot. here's what worked:

boot to safe mode with networking (used lan connect).
    ran malwarebytes scan
    ran superantispyware scan
ran combofix (which got rid of the rootkit and proxy problems).

It seems every time I get rid of an annoying virus, another one appears shortly after! It's driving me crazy.

Whenever I try to go to sites through google I get redirected to some bogus site, like Gomeo for example.

I also have a problem with downloading. Only a small percentage of the download is downloaded almost every time so I keep having to redo them.

What are really the best programs for scanning and getting rid of these viruseS?

Sounds like your system is pretty hosed, and you're going to sites that are compromised and are infecting you, or are running software that's infected and it keeps re-infecting you. If you have any warez or pirated games those can be vectors for infection, as well as unpatched operating systems or browsers.

Your best bet now is likely a nuke and pave because you have no way of telling how deep your infection is and if it's hiding from you somehow.

' HitmanPro3' is one of the best programs to get rid of TDL3/TDL4 rootkits.
It scans fast and removes serious malware.

However, you'd really be best off following the advice from Pitabred.
Take your loss, back up important files and nuke your HDD (make sure the first MB's of the first partition are actually zero'd) and start over fresh.

It will perhaps take a day but you've been at it for a week now...

Sorry for not having updated this thread. I just got back from vacation.

What I did a while ago was pretty simple. Scanned it with windows safety scanner, avg, xoftspyse and then hitmanpro3. My troubles were gone after that.
Once again, the people on this site have bailed me out. For the past 4 years I went here and fixed my problems :) Thanks all.
