    Hi, everyone.
Here is the problem I am facing now. I ordered a sager laptop without os. (which I originally thought I can download from DreamSpark, however, it turned out that my access was expired). I am looking for a solution for this issue.
Here is what I have now: I had downloaded a win 8 pro once and its .iso had burned into a disc, the product key associated with it( which I believe it won't work anymore) a win 7 hmPrm upgrade disc with valid product key(it is the one I received from HP)
    Questions:
    1. Since it is going to be a clean hard drive, Can I clean install by using my win 7 upgrade disc? OR
can I simply buy a upgrade product key to make custom installation of win 8?
    Thank you

Product keys from the big OEMs (Dell, HP, et al) are tied to those machines and would not work on a new one. Spend the $100 for a system builder/OEM copy of Windows 7 or 8.

    1. Yes, any official installation media (genuine .iso, retail disc etc.) allows you to install a functional Windows 7/8 OS, from scratch. (Google is your friend: "MediaBootInstall")
    2. Similarly, as long as your retail/upgrade product key is valid (not OEM/brand -restricted), you can use it to install the OS it relates to. No more, no less.

thank you for all replies. I will try to deactivate the current product key then to see it would work or not.
