ok, so im here at college, and they have this program to check and see if you have an antivirus, firewall, and updates (which i do), but it wouldnt let me on the network because "my virus defs are out of date", which means i cant get online to get another antivirus. so i tried updating..and it said they were up to date, but the program still says no go. so i installed a free version of symantec (which they give you if you dont have an antivirus). well, now i got on the internet, and got avg as my antivirus (dont like too much, but i guess i can deal), and i want to uninstall the symantec, but it says i need a password to uninstall. i googled it, and found out the main password is "symantec", but that didnt work, so now i cant uninstall it. any ideas?

if i were you I would back up your data and reformat but that's just me(i like reformatting), and a clean install of windows is nice.

So are AVG and Norton on the same computer? Most systems don't like having two antivirus programs running on the same machine.

If this is the case, remove AVG and then try uninstalling Norton. However, I've run into instances where you do need to go to Symantec's website and do a thorough uninstall procedure to get rid of its stuff.

But as tuurtje97 suggested (and probably what others will too) is that a backup and full reformat might be in order in the worst case scenario..

google: Symnrt (symantec norton removal tool). That should do the trick.

Edit: if you are using Cisco Clean Access Agent to login to your college's internet server you won't be able to use anything but symantec or mcafee. The program doesn't support anything else. I have asked repeatedly for my school to change that, but they won't. It sucks.
