    how to partition hard drive?

    can anyone give me some step by step instructions. I am running windows xp pro right now. my laptop is an asus a8jm.

    You need to get some partition software like Partition Magic 8. It will cost you a little bit, but it is well worth it. Just install that software, and it's very easy to figure out from there.

    I don't know if there are any freebies out there though...

    GParted is free. It will build and work NTFS partitions.

    Depends on your goal, partition magic and I belive GParted can both do partition changes without formating and erasing the data on an exsisting partition.

    But just your good ol' xp boot disk will let you use use fdisk wich can create partitions, and format them. Its something you already have.

    Keep in mind partition magic and gparted are not 100% it can kill you data so make sure to back it up first.


    I have to create 3 partitons on my new drive, I will probably just use fdisk.
