What laptop do you have? Do you have a backup CD to reinstall the OS and system drivers that are currently on your laptop? If you don't then before you do anything you need to ither make or get a backup CD for the OS that is on the laptop and then download the latest drivers for the devices on your computer. I would then wipe the hard drive clean by deleting the existing partitions and everything on it and do a clean install of your current OS in one partition and the Vista beta in another partition. You can create partitions during the install procedure for XP or Vista. Another option if you want to just leave the laptop the way it is and create a new partition then most likely you can use partitioning software like PartitionMagic to create a new partition within the partition you are using now.
