my two fav choices...easy to use...good results are 'WinAvi' and DvdSanta'...Nero Recode isn't bad but you have limited choices on how much of space on a DVD disc you can use...i'm sure others will have their favs too...

Use any one of 'em....but remember to select the correct format -- PAL or NTSC....
(presuming your player is not multi-region :p)

I found two sites for dvdsanta. First was dvdsanta.com the second was officialdvdsanta.com. The latter looks like a scam as it offers the software for $9.99 and virtually no website content. The former seems like the real deal. Can anyone shed any light on this?

Also are there any open source/freeware alternatives to the offerings mentioned in this thread?

I have a lot of Divx compatable DVD players all over my house, so I burn data CDs with Nero 6...

As for DVD compliant discs, I use VSO's ConvertXToDVD, which handles just about any video format I can throw at it, and burns w/no sync problems

you can just use the burner that comes with divx also, i find it to be simple and trouble (error) free.

Or set up your drive for drag-drop data, and just throw them over via the drag/drop windows tree.
If it is just .avi files .mpeg .mp4 (some players play also), you dont need anything more than what you already have. thats super cheap!

    www.officialdvdsanta.com Is not a scam.
dvdsanta.com was purchased by www.officialdvdsanta.com back in 2007.
$9.99 was supposed to be an introductory price for the full upgraded 4.5 version.
I think it was supposed to be for a limited time only, so I took advantage of this while I could.
And for your information it is a bargain and it also works great.
    A GREAT SOFTWARE.
    Donna.

I burn as Data since my player is DivX compatible

and i use these new Sony Accucore DVDs which are DVD + R and support maximum formats..

    WinAvi seems fine for others.

Just use Windows DVD Maker if you're running Vista.

    Thanks for the tip!

I didn't even know that Vista came with Windows DVD Maker.

Nice program, even allows you to create chapters.... so you can jump to different locations within the movie.

    Nice price, too!

    Thanks!
