With the information in here I was able to do a clean install on my HP desktop. What I did was plug a 2nd hard drive in, chose it as the boot HD in bios, then did the clean install on it. You guessed it right, the original drive with vista was still plugged in. Here's the problem I have, whenever I shut down the system (not restart) and turn it back on, it seems to boot from the other hard drive. So every other boot, it would go into vista, and in between I will have a blank screen. I tried to format the other drive, I switched the cable to the new drive is drive 0, and I disabled the old drive through the bios. I just want to set up the 2nd drive for storage (it also contains a recovery partition. Is there anyway I can get Vista to consistently load the correct partition? Thank you....

After some research, it looks like I need to get rid of the boot sector on the original drive. Is there a way to do that from Vista? Thanks.
