    help on windows sound required

    On the Advanced tab in Speaker Settings for Vista (control panel (classic view)>sound>speakers/headphones>advanced). it says "Select the sample rate and bit depth to be used when running in shared mode." There is a dropdown list with different sample rates and bit depths.

    What does this mean exactly, and how would you go about determining the best setting?.

    what do you mean by 'shared mode'

    will this downsample my audio if it plays in a higher quality/bitrate
