I have antivir, superspyware and malware bytes installed on my computer which is fairly new and has 2gb. they were running fine but now for the past two weeks everytime i try to run a virus scan my laptop freezes at 17 percent completed. what is going on? I can't run any one of them. i end up restarting my cpu but i've done it so many times now i'm afraid i will damage the harddrive? what could cause the problem. if this helps, about three weeks ago antivir notified me of a trojan that i deleted.

You're most likely getting a driver conflict now, which is typically what causes a system to freeze up. For starters, try uninstalling each of the aforementioned items, and then reinstalling them to see if that clears things up. Also, make sure that each app is aware of the others and is set to ignore them, otherwise, if two are running at the same time and not recognizing each other as innocuous, they may be deadlocking each other.

Can you run them in safe mode? Safe mode will not load most drivers at start up, and you should be able to see if it is a driver issue.
