Download utorrent. Install it. If you use a router you need to forward some port to your ip. Download torrent files. Open the torrent file with utorrent and it will start downloading.
Make sure you only download legal things!

There's a built-in search box in utorrent that searches some of the more popular torrent sites.

Hey, uTorrent is my favorite BT client. Quick clean and easy.

    1. So first go to www.uTorrent.com and download the installer (or .exe file) and run the application.

    2. When you first open it, fill out the network settings to the ones that match your current setup/speeds.
*Note: Later on if you see that you have problems connecting to people/torrents go to PortForward.com

and just select your router and read the directions on the site from there on how to forward a port through your router. (make sure you match the port you forward on your uTorrent Network settings afterwards.)

    3. Find a torrent and download/open the ".torrent" file with utorrent and you should be able to DOWNLOAD.

Make sure to read comments (if possible) or check the "seed/peer" ratio before downloading a file. Some people will tell you if a file is fake or whether its real.

Its much more effective than "limewire" and other popular p2p clients in both speed and quality of files so if you have any small problems keep at it.

Using the program is rather easy, but downloading movies and music from sharing portals (such as Limewire, utorrent, etc) is ILLEGAL and UNETHICAL, and thus I advise you not to do so. Not only could you get in major trouble for it if someone found out, but doing things like this only makes the situation worse for the customers that actually pay for their media.

there are some free movies on there.

and I do not believe it is unethical.

Whenever I use uTorrent it seems to mess with my phone system (I have phone through Vonage from my Cable modem internet). Is this because I have not forwarded a port? Is forwarding a port risky in terms of viruses and such?

likely a bandwidth issue. you've got tv, regular internet traffic and phone traffic going in and out through the same intertube. downloading a torrent also means uploading packets of info, so your internet traffic is likely eating up most of the bandwidth, thus intruding on your phone calls with 'noise'.
