Hey people. This problem is for the Vista users...all my .gif pictures don't seem to move in Vista. I don't know why. Is it the same for you guys? I'm not talking about the gifs online but the saved ones on the computer.

My gifs open in Internet Explorer instead of Photo Gallery. I don't remember if the xp version of Photo Gallery (image and fax viewer?) handled gifs. I don't think it did.

So, they animate no problem in either IE or Firefox. What program are you viewing them in?

Mine is set to open with Photo Gallery, which is pretty stupid how it doesn't view gifs. What is Microsoft doing?

MS Photo Gallery can't open the GIF files (I mean they can, but won't play (??) the animations). The XP version did that though. Pretty stupid of MS.

Use a 3rd party program like IrfanView to view them (make the the defaul program fro GIFs).

Well they opened in XP's fax and photo viewer but they don't play. Gif's can play in a browser because a browser is set to be able to play Gif's through html. Even though most of Window's interface may seem like its made in html, and some of it is, its not actually all made in html ( Ya I know I couldn't believe Microsoft actually knows how to program in somehting other than HTML either).

Photo gallery and Fax/Photo/Picture viewer are both programs that aren't capable of handling HTML or GIF images. They will open but only one still of the gif since gif's are merely sequential stills.

I'm pretty certain that there was a reason given for omitting .gif. Something along the lines of wanting to progress to a more advanced format due to limitations in gif if I remember correctly.

As for now, theres no real animated image format on the horizon, it's kinda stupid to sell your car when you have to drive to work tomorrow right? so why get ride of a codec when theres no other one out yet? But as for the future i guess.....
