Definitely get No-Script and Adblock Plus with the Adblock Filterset G Updater. All the other add-ons are more user preference.

Edit: Customize Google can also be helpful so you don't send data to Google.

There's a much better plugin for that, though, called Tab Mix Plus...

McAfee Site Advisor-covered my butt many a time...

IE Tab-Yes, a select few sites (I'm lookin at you Outlook Web Access :p) are either gimped or refuse to run in Firefox. Very handy not to have to open a separate IE window.

I think I've read where "filter G" can cause problems, and that the "easy list" is a better option.

    Anyone know?

I think using the built in undo closed tab shortcut in firefox is better.

Wow, didn't know about that. I thought you were supposed to use filter G with ABP. Thanks for the information. I guess I'll switch to EasyList.

Edit: EasyList finally got rid or the blank bar that was still present with Filter G.

If you are a Web page developer then the AddOns to go for are:-

    WebDeveloper
    FireBug
    Venkman

One very useful general Add on I found was Fast Dial, its a visual bookmark where you can see thumbnails of the sites you most frequently visit in your about:blank page. Similar to whats built in in Google Chrome.

Is this true - by using the mozilla search page and customize google you are not sending any data to google?

If you don't want to send data to a web site, block it in your firewall

It depends on your firewall. In ZoneAlarm, one simply adds an IP Address, IP Address Range, or Host Name into the Blocked Zone.

Most routers have this capability as well.

You can use the firewall method, but it's much easier to just get Customize Google and check off the privacy features.

It looks to me like the CustomizeGoogle extension to Firefox actually adds information rather than removes it, other than ads, which would be removed by AdBlockPlus, right? Just observing, if you like it, by all means, use it.

All I have it set to is to remove ads (yes, ABP blocks these, however, my main usage is the security), use the secure settings, remove click tracking, and the other privacy stuff. If you don't want to add the options, such as links to other search engines, don't check off the box. Other then that, the only thing it adds is an entry in the Tools menu and in the Add-ons section.

Thanks for the tips, I never knew customize google had any options. I disabled these two.. hopefully that's enough to stay private.

I've started using the Sidebar for Bookmarks and History. I like the concept of the All-in-One Sidebar extension, but it is buggy, so I am trying out some others ( Sidebar Icons + Sidebar Autohide). The 2 Pane Bookmarks extension is also nice. It makes Firefox bookmarks work like Opera bookmarks. I kind of like that about Opera.

I also came across this today. It is kind of a text-based reverse lookup of Firefox extensions. "I want a Firefox extension that does ..." is how it is structured.
