MemTest >>> MemTest: RAM reliability tester for Windows

MemTest is a RAM reliability tester that runs under Windows. It evaluates the ability of your computer to store and retrieve data accurately. A correctly functioning computer should be able to do both these tasks with 100% accuracy day in and day out. A computer that fails these tests, perhaps because of old hardware, damaged hardware, or poorly configured hardware, will be less stable and crash more often. Even worse, it will become even less stable over time as corrupted data is written to your hard disk.

By running MemTest you can ensure that your computer's RAM is correctly functioning. It is wise to test this when you buy a new computer, install new RAM, or change the configuration of your machine (for instance, to overclock it). Are you the sort of user who likes to push the performance of your machine to the edge? Relying upon whether your machine will boot after your new BIOS tweaks is a poor way to determine the safety of your new settings. Use MemTest as a true test of stability.

New in version 4.0: The MemTest Deluxe bootable CD now supports 32-bit and 64-bit CPUs.

Who Crashed >>> Resplendence Software - WhoCrashed, automatic crash dump analyzer

    Just released: version 3.00
WhoCrashed reveals the drivers responsible for crashing your computer

Whenever a computer running Windows suddenly reboots without displaying any notice or blue screen of death, the first thing that is often thought about is a hardware failure. In reality, most crashes are caused by malfunctioning device drivers and kernel modules. In case of a kernel error, most computers running Windows do not show a blue screen unless they are configured to do so. Instead these systems suddenly reboot without any notice.

WhoCrashed shows the drivers which have been crashing your computer with a single click. In most cases it can pinpoint the offending drivers which have been causing misery on your computer system in the past. It does post-mortem crashdump analysis and presents all gathered information in a comprehensible way.

Normally, debugging skills and a set of debugging tools are required to do post-mortem crash dump analysis. By using this utility you do not need any debugging skills to be able to find out what drivers are causing trouble to your computer.

If your computer crashed and produced a blue screen

It is suggest that you run WhoCrashed. WhoCrashed will analyze the crash dump files available on your computer and create a conclusion. It will inform you about responsible drivers and offer suggestions on how to proceed.

NBR Throttlestop Guide bu Unclewebb > http://forum.notebookreview.com/har...arket-upgrades/531329-throttlestop-guide.html

ThrottleStop is a small application designed to monitor for and correct the three main types of CPU throttling that are being used on many laptop computers.

The left side of ThrottleStop contains a variety of options which can be used to bypass CPU throttling and on the right side is a Monitoring panel that shows you the current state of each thread on your CPU.

Some laptops are using clock modulation and multiplier reductions to lower the performance and power consumption of your computer. This is done deliberately to either allow your computer to run cooler or to allow your laptop to operate with a power adapter that is not sufficient to fully power your laptop and recharge its battery at the same time.

When using ThrottleStop, it is strongly recommended to monitor power consumption at the wall with a Kill-a-Watt meter or similar device and make sure that you don't exceed the power capabilities of your power adapter. Use of ThrottleStop to bypass these throttling schemes is at your own risk and can result in permanent damage to your power adapter or computer or both which may not be covered by your warranty.

your welcome mate. had the list on here since 2009 but the thread was closed due to the official page with most of the things on it. problem was they were spread over 20 pages. only reposted with newer stuff so i could link to it in sig again.

    Great thread.

I wish they'd update Core Temp. I use it but it is buggy (sometimes the temps don't show in the notification area, or only one does)

You may want to check out SiSoftware Sandra Lite

    What about PowerMark?

It ain't free.. but if someone reseller or so bought this and benchmarked the machines battery power.. it would be wonderful, a great tool to compare battery power and different machines :)

thanks for posting jaug. not seen that one from futuremark before.

i wont add it above as $200 i dont think many will buy it but good idea about a reseller maybe doing tests using it.

at least youve posted it on this thread so members have a choice.

I found out my new sager NP9170 shipped yesterday, and I remembered this thread. However, it took me over 30 minutes to find it. I think it should be sticky so people who are receiving their new rigs and want to make sure everything is running correctly can find it easily.

Threads get automatically locked after a while of inactivity. I don't remember how long it actually takes, you could just ask us to re-open it if it happens again.

Not a lot of people do, don't worry about it and it really does take a while for threads to get locked. I only figured out there was one a while ago while looking for an older thread.

Great list got loads of those programs on my notebook. But do you know what programs will work on a system with an old Pentium 4? I have checked a few but neither of them can be installed or can display the CPU temps.

good question. i guess you tried core temps but did you try hwinfo64

what operating system is it running. with windows 7 the temps dont show in the main window but in the popup box on right of taskbar. i can try and find an older version if its still got xp loaded.

Maybe CrystalDiskInfo if it's still free of ads and such, I've seen a report of the latest Shizuku edition containing some, dunno about the regular edition.

By the way, in case the thread gets old enough for the forum to autolock it like it happened with your previous thread, let us know, we'll reopen it for you.

What is best, most widely used CPU temp monitoring software? I read the entire threads and there are about 6-8 different hardware monitors listed. I am looking for something that is reasonably accurate and can sit in the system tray. Thanks.

MSI afterburner using the OSD via rivatuner.

all temperature monitoring utilities read the same sensor (and poll nominally different). i use coretemp. you can configure it on the taskbar like so:

(load, core temps, GPU temp via afterburner)

    Matt, coretemp looks nice.

I am currently using SpeedFan but I don't like having to to the UAC thing to run it every time I reboot / login to my machine. I only monitor temps well because I am a geek and I like stuff like that but also to ensure that my re-pasting went smoothly. On my Latitude E6500 I have a C2D P8600 @ 2.4GHz. It idle's around 38c and under load (3 browsers 3 different flash games running and VLC playing The Xx) it gets up around 70c. I looked up the CPU info from intel and it would appear the maximum temp is 105c. Based on that I assume I am good to go. I should be this would be like the 300th machine I've re-applied the paste to.

    Hi
i have no idea why your antivirus is doing that. i use avast internet security and have just downloaded frapps again from my link without any problems. it could be a false positive with trendmicro. it is a safe link so you could add it to your exceptions list to let it download.
as mentioned a lot use msi afterburner as well but ive not used it myself for ingame fps but ive used it for ingame graphs on temperatures.

as mentioned below. i also use core temps and hwinfo64. hwinfo gives a lot more information but can get a bit confusing while core temps is the basic core readouts.
i have done a few tests over the last few years and had all of them running at once and every single one of them gave slightly different readings but it was only by about 5c but when you are hitting the high 80's 5c can make a lot of difference.

first thing i do with any new computer is turn UAC off as its a pain in the a** :) a lot of people do keep it active though as its the last line of defence for protection.
70c is perfect under load and nothing to worry about. 90c and above is when you need to keep an eye on things and do a clean out of fans and vents as dust can push temps up by at least 10c

hope this thread has helped you all out a bit :)

    Hey,

So I went with msi afterburner+HWiNFO and followed the intructions on the link Mattcheau posted, But afterburner is saying my gpu is at 0ºc Which I find strange. I haven't tried running any games yet to see if it makes a diference.

I also have installed HWmonitor and that shows temps on my gpu and funny enough if i start it then afterburner gices me some temps as well. Any Ideas what is going on?

    Thanks

Thanks you very much. I figured the temps were good, but it's always nice to have independent verification. I also switched from SpeedFan to CoreTemp as it shows the temps for each core. More geeky-ness for me. :)

you'll want to run a game. if the card is inactive à la optimus, the system may not be polling the sensor. that said, i'm still able to see GPU temp even if it's not in use on my system -- but that'd be the first thing for you to check.

I'll give that a try later today. I'll have to reinstall it though. I tried the beta version but it didn't work, something about beiing expired.

    I'll let you know...

    Update:

It seems to be working now. Showing temps in tray and in game as well. Super!

wise care seemed ok and i tested it on the trial version but didnt buy the full package.
i still use cc cleaner and tune up utilitys myself.
wise care is along the same lines of http://www.tune-up.com/ which ive been using the paid version for years but last year it was bought by avg so im not sure if i will get it again this year.
