If you do NOT use the hibernate feature at all, you may delete it, otherwise uncheck that one.

If you want to fully disable the hibernation feature, press the windows key+R. Then type cmd and press enter. In the new window, type: powercfg -h off. Then press enter and close it.

The disadvantage to disabling Hibernation is obviously that you cannot put your notebook into the deep hibernation state in which it does not fully shut down, but it doesn't consume power either.

The advantage to disabling Hibernation is that you regain 3GB of valuable HDD space.

    nope,
vista needs the hibernation file only if you use hibernation function.
sleep function does not use the hibernation file.
you can safely delete the hibernation file if you only use sleep function.

This is not exactly true. The sleep function is Vista is different than that of XP. Vista powers down everything except the RAM, which provides a near instantaneous wake up. Since this takes battery power Vista monitors battery power during sleep. Should battery power get too low Vista wakes the computer and writes the contents of RAM to disk (hibernation file).

Vista's hybrid sleep function, which is the default on desktops only, does both at the same time. Writes the RAM contents to disk then shuts down everything but power to RAM.

Anyway, you can delete the hibernation file. If Windows needs the file (either because you've chosen hybrid sleep or lost enough battery to force it) it will recreate it.
