Hey im trying to install windows xp pro (corporate version).
I am installing on my laptop which is running fine. In fact only a month ago i installed win xp home which im trying to remove now.

When i boot up my windows xp pro cd and the setup reads all the files.... i press Enter on the main screen to proceed with the windows installation. After about 5 seconds i get this error

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the Stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try chaging video adapters.

Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode.

    XXX STOP: 0x0000008E (0xC0000006, 0x909c137, 0xF73BA10, 0x00000000)

I have no idea why im getting this !! any help please ???

i may know what is causing the problem. Last week my laptop fell out of my bag on concrete. Nothing happened to it and everything still works fine... games play.. temperatures are normal...
i dont think anything happened to it since everything works fine .. but could that be the reason or //

My best guess would be an HDD or memory related issue, see if you can find or create a bootable disc to run scandisk / memory test to see if either has been comprimised.
