I have a small SSD 128gb as internal drive and two 750GB ext. drives which contain the same exact files as backup.

I usually copy a few folders on my internal and delete/modify/create files, then I need to backup and sync to the ext drives (daily or weekly). I would like to automate this procedure as I have been doing it manually as i haven't had time to study how to do it. The two ext. drives are only connected when I backup, and I might just pull out a few folders at a time.

I thought about using Acronis True Image with differential scheme but I realized I need to access the data on the ext. drives from other computers that might not have Acronis. I am not interested in having previous versions of the same file. Also tried windows backup but it just creates one backup files and doesn't let me choose subfolder destinations.

Would a synch software serve my purpose better? I was looking at Super Flexible File Synch and FreeCommander. Is the sync only based on the modified date? It doesn't copy the files that have not been modified, correct?

What do you guys suggest? Thanks.

Given what you want, what you need is a syncing software just like you suggested, windows live mesh might able to do what you want. I use it so sync to different computers so i'm not certain if you can sync between drives.

You may be able to use Karen's Replicator. Even though I also have Acronis backing up my system, it's what I use to backup my expanding music collection to dedicated external HDD.

    Karen's Replicator

The author recently passed away and it's no longer being supported but it still works. Unlike Acronis the files remain in their native state.

thanks for the suggestion, I already tried Replicator and it's good but i prefer freesync because has a better GUI.

    thanks though

Eye candy is nice, but it doesn't always make for a meaningful relationship.

I don't think it's just UI, is there something the Replicator does better? I am all ears.
