    Very decent. But also use others too. One is not enough. They pick up different things.

    Ashampoo AntiSpyWare 2 is another very good AntiSpyware program. It's $30 for the program, but they give you a 40 day trial run.

    It also seems to work well with Vista.

    I've not used AVG for antispyware. I tried AVG antivirus and liked avast! a bit better for antivirus. Personal choice. This post describes what I currently use. A search (or a few searches) here at notebookreview.com should locate a fair number of opinions.

    I agree with AKAJohn. A search on notebookreview.com will result in many opinions. The fact is that there are many programs, both AntiVirus and AntiSpyWare, that are good products. So it's really a matter of your personal choice.

    I also agree with blondie, in that you need more than one AntiSpyWare program, as they each tend to identify different things as spyware, while ignoring others.

    I use Ad-Aware SE and Spybot: Search and Destroy. I also run this every once and a while on top of those 2 programs and my AV:

    AVG is very good. I find that it detects more than any other single program. Of course, the above advise is still true - use more than one.

    I highly recommend AVG
    Sorry, didn't mean to be so obscure! VG = VG

    I'm so old school that in grade school years ago

    E=Excellent which is now an A
    VG= Very Good = B
    G= Good= C
    P=Poor=D
    F=Failing=F!

    Almost didn't remember P and F (never got any ;)

    Spyware Doctor ftw.

    This software has picked up more things then Adaware and Spybot and Windows Care combined. It has picked up more registry keys that have been infected then those combined.

    Link here.

    Just unclick everything else and leave spyware doctor to download it. Or, if you see something you like in that package, click that too.

    AVG is anti-virus

    Adaware is for removing spyware

    Spywareblaster stops a lot of incoming spyware

    CCleaner removes temp files and supposedly fixes registry issues.

    You need anti-virus and spyware, cleaners and blockers are optional but good, IMO

    Sorry.

    I have not used AVG spyware. I do think more than one is good and run a deep scan every so often.

    I'm trying the Spyware Doctor recommended here. I find that when I do run another spyware after running Adaware it usually gives me "false positives", like items which have been quaratined by Adaware or Spybot, not real infections. Some of the free ones that are trying to get you to upgrade identify thngs which aren't real then get you to pay to "remove" them. I doubt Google would represent a company like that. I'll let you know how Spyware Doctor performs. It sure is running slowly, been scanning for like an hour now!

    Finally done. It found 2 items, both related for an mp3 site from Bulgaria. I removed both. They had been there for a while but appeared to be links my son had visited in the past rather than data miners. I'll conitnue to test Spyware Doctor and make it part of my routine. Free is good! As I mentioned, most Google things are good. But they are getting so big I am afraid they are postioning to take over the (internet) world.

    In that case I would definitely recommend more than just AVG spyware (AVG virus is good).

    I deleted ewido as it didn't clean as well as Adaware. It never caught anything Adaware left and Adaware found things after running ewido

    Different sorts of 'real-time' protection shields and guards which you pretty don't need running because 1) hogs alot of system resources and 2) if you do manual scans at the end of each week.

    How about real-time like Spywareblaster or Spybot? They don't seem to hog resources on my setup. And if you wait for a week to scan instead of blocking won't they be data mining you for that week?

    From their website (http://www.pctools.com/spyware-doctor/):
    "The trial offers time unlimited real-time protection (free spyware blocking), but does not remove threats detected during on-demand scans."
