recently, vista has been displaying a please wait message for around 30 seconds, when about 2 weeks ago it only took around 5 secs. i checked the event monitor and it seems im getting this one error that i cannot fix:
The Aspi32 service failed to start due to the following error:
This driver has been blocked from loading
any ideas on how to fix it?
thanks

I had an ASPI error too... BSOD...
Its actually an odd one - from what I could find Vista does not have anything to do with ASPIs per se...
Its just some software that brings it "on board" - Nero for me I think.
I think the error stopped occuring regularly ever since I updated mine - from the Windows 95 version to an XP version... I had to instal in compatebility mode though... and I'm not sure if its the best fix...
Can you get an exact error message and an error code? -
The Aspi32 service failed to start due to the following error:
This driver has been blocked from loading
Log Name: System
Source: Service Control Manager Eventlog Provider
Event ID: 7000
when i type in net start "aspi32" in the cmd prompt, i get error 1275, driver blocked from starting -
hmm... can figure out which ASPI version you have on your computer?
(I originally had a version from 95 ??)
(Get an ASPI-checker) -
aspi 32 version 4.60 (1021)
date 9/10/99
ASPI is properly installed but one of the helper drivers has failed to initialize (0xE3) -
i believe that the ASPI is installed with the software that many CD/DVD Drives have installed with them, not the Vista drivers. you could try reinstalling or updating the DVD/CD Drive drivers or remove any CD/DVD Software.
-
Or at your own risk... instal in compatebility mode XP ASPI drivers... I think there is a 4.62 version available...

i installed new drivers and did a lot of other stuff, but nothing has helped. still windows aspi 32 error.
and windows is displaying please wait for close to 45 seconds, it used to take 5 seconds. whats going on here?
i also get this:
Unable to initialize the security package Kerberos for server side authentication. The data field contains the error number.
source http
event id 15016 -
I have no idea - I am sorry.
I wonder - you wouldn't know how to troubleshoot where the ASPI error originates from, i.e. what exactly causes it? -
no, cant seem to locate it. any ideas on where i could locate it?
i have skipped the problem for a week or so, and dont exactly remember how i went about doing this...i had a busy week -
Try looking at the windows error logs.
For example in my case the ASPI error always occurred in conjunction with Realplyer and Flash videos...
