    Hello Everyone.

I bought a netbook that has a Z520 / 1.33 GHz cpu and it is very unstable running Windows 7. It came with Windows XP and was running just fine.

I had another netbook that had the same CPU and it has the exact same problem, but I thought it was a just slow HDD and sold it on ebay.

Now, this one got a new HDD and fresh install, so it should be at least decent, but it feels very sluggish and as if I was running it on a 10 year old hardware.

My P4 1.8 ran Windows 7 a lot better and WEI was much lower than it is on this netbook.

Anyway, I believe that the problem is in the CPU driver and was wondering if anyone knows of a customized or 'hacked' version of the driver for Z520.

PS. I have a n270 netbook and it feels 10 times better.

How much RAM does it have?

Maybe try another ISO from my sig, and perform a Custom/(advanced)/clean install and delete all existing partitions.

I think I've seen some of those uber small laptops running 7 with the Z series Atoms with no issues. Have you tried reinstalling the OS? I've run Windows 7 on a Pentium 3 850 MHz and 768 MB RAM, it was slow but it ran.

It has 1GB of RAM, but I will borrow a 2 gb from another netbook to see if that makes any difference. I did do a clean install formatting everything installing fresh. All drivers were from Asus's website.
I have like 5 netbooks at home with 1gb of RAM and and they run great! (for a netbook at least). The only difference is that they all have either a n270 (1.60GHz) or n280 (1.66ghz). I just do believe that .33ghz would make sure a huge difference.

It is very hard to explain, but the computer feels as if it didn't have a driver for video and CPU or something, but I'm 95% sure it does.

In my experience with a Dell Mini 12 with the 1.33GHz Z520 and 1GB RAM (not upgradeable), it could barely run XP at a tolerable pace! The 4200rpm PATA hard drive was part of the problem also, but the processor is and RAM are definitely the weakest links.

Doesn't it use PowerVR based graphics (GMA 500)? The graphics drivers for that are supposed to be pretty bad. Your other netbooks properly have real Intel graphics.

Yeah, I sold that thing as fast as I could.. couldn't handle the slow drive.
I guess that is my problem. The graphics is on these CPUs. I mean, I have had an old VIA processor running at 1ghz and windows 7 ran better than this.. lol Looks like I'm selling this one as well.

Is there a hacked/modded version of the driver for GMA 500?

If anyone still cares....or has the same problem.
I kind of figured it out. I found a new driver from Intel (not available on Asus' website or dells) that make GMA500 act a lot more responsive. I can now browse windows without glitches, etc. Youtube now plays pretty decent at 360p. Just feels overall more responsive.
