How could installing XP onto a Vista machine void your warranty? That doesn't seem possible.

I found that interesting too, I'll meditate on it. I also find funny to buy a machine with Vista but with having in mind a downgrade to XP  weird.

Also, whitebox vendors can continue selling XP, why should they? Support will end in 2009.

Security patches support for XP until 2014, I wonder what will be the support strategy for Vista when Windows 7 comes out.

I'm pretty sure that is a lie perpetuated by the Geek Squad and manufacturers warranty departments who don't want to provide support for people running into the driver/compatibility issues we see everyday here.

A few friends have told me they want to go to XP but don't want to void their warranty. When I looked at them strange and said, "huh?", they told me that when they purchased the laptop the salesman told them this was the case.

If people are worried about voiding the warranty just restore Vista before sending it in for servicing. Seems pretty simple to avoid these lies :).

Yeah that part seemed like a lie to me. I just wasn't sure if I had missed something. LOL

    From what I found online

    "
    1. Will the Installation Void Warranty?
Check with the manufacturer or its website. Some manufacturers have advised against downgrading to XP but most do not give indication about voiding warranty; also, some manufacturers like HP, will require users to re-install back the Vista operating system if the PC/Notebooks are to be sent back to them for repairs."
