    Hi guy's,

I am having a problem with my PC. When i give Windows the shutdown command (from the start button) it starts to shutdown and continues until the hdd shuts down (I can here the hdd shut down) but the screen doesn't shut down (the Windows display keeps running). I can also here the cpu fan still spinning although the hdd has switched off.

I scanned my computer for viruses and spyware and removed a couple of spyware (no virus found) ;)

Can anybody help me out here?

    Thanks for any input.

P.S.: I recently changed my keyboard, the other keyboard I had, had a power
button I used to press and the PC will shut off.

i would either restore the original windows files because a few might be corrupt, or just reinstall windows..

Did this issue start immediately after installing the new keyboard? If so, I think I'd take it out and reinstall it before considering reinstalling Windows. However, a Windows repair might not be a bad idea; you might be able to fix the problem without losing any data.

Have you ever heard of a thing called a battery? Pull it out - then everything will shut down!

Seriously, this shouldn't damage it but just in case I wouldn't do it until there is no other alternative than installing something.

Probably the memory still have leftover processes that are not terminated from the XP shutdown.

But in this case i'd save the trouble, back up the data and reinstall XP.

Which correction helped yesterday, choopz, reinstalling the keyboard or a Windows repair?

Reinstalling the software worked yesterday but today it is not working again.
I have already tried to remove and re-installing the software but with no luck.

For the Windows repair I will have to use my Windows install cd wright?
I tried doing that but it wouldn't let because the Windows version on my PC is newer than the one on the cd.

Thanks for the help I really appreciate it.

    Yes, you'll need your CD.

Been a while since I've reinstalled Windows or done a repair, but IIRC, reboot your machine with the CD. Start a reinstall, but when shown the option to repair for the first time, ignore and continue with the install. When you're shown the repair option for the second time, then click on it and continue to follow the on screen instructions.

Hope this works, choopz, because the repair will save your data. To reformat and then reinstall Windows will probably rid your machine of all issues, but will also delete everything else. Good luck.

Try using TuneXP and Crapcleaner to clean up your registry and all those craps installed from your pc.
