    Use a non-nlited, non-pirated, non-blackmarket, original copy of XP.

If it is one, then get a new disk.

Your CD is damaged, so what does that has to do with XP being lame  You'll get similar errors with linux too, if you try to install without doing a media check....

Not just linux, Vista and Mac as well if trying to install from a damaged CD.

yeah, just giving one example ;) . Basically any installation either OS or application, will fail with a damaged disk ...

First try washing it with a little bit of soap, that will get rid of any dirt or grease [this has worked for me several times in the past], if that fails, then maybe you can use one of those CD scratch removal kits [however, I've never tried this]. Still, the chances of recovery are very slim...

PhoenixFx, Yes.. I am quiet aware that anything will fail if it's damaged. Heres the cute part, it works in the same system if I actually try to install it on the system not via Virtual PC. It works on my desktop as well. I tried it on some other machines and it gave the same errors. Basically it works when it wants to. I've cleaned it, and made a complete duplicate to a new CD. Same results - that's why I said it was being lame, as a joke.. Thanks for the ideas.

andyasselin, Thanks didn't know they had copies of windows up for grabs like that.. lol.. Downloading now, since everything else failed. I've grown sick of rebooting my machine to XP to test a freshly coded web site then having to reboot back to vista and apply fixes and changes then go back to XP and test again--viscous circle.

Trying to install an OS from within an OS isn't a good idea. Its probably your Vista OS kicking off at the fact you're installing XP within its own environment which will fail. If it is possible to install at that point (which i highly doubt) then the chances are you have a corrupt disc.

If all else fails, back up the files you wish to keep. Let your computer reboot and start the system from the CD-Rom and install that way from fresh, if the problem continues, order another disc from the place you got that one from.

That said, I've never had a problem like that before.

All the best for the New Year,
    Adam. (Netties001)

You're pretty immature and/or stupid, considering that you're getting offended over the replies your getting despite the fact that your thread title is a blatant troll. In a forum dominated by Windows XP fanboys who love nothing less than bashing on OSes they've never used (cough Vista), if you make your thread title "XP is lame" you're just asking for it. In addition, the very thread itself has absolutely nothing to do with XP anyway. You yourself have acknowledged that it works if you install it without virtualization, so if you can't figure out where the problem probably lies you're rather incompetent. Make your thread title "Unable to install Windows XP via Virtualization" next time, and I guarantee you'll get more helpful comments. Now go away troll.

whats the performance of virtual xp like compared to the real thing? i dont think its even worth it for testing purposes. i say a fresh install via boot disk is worth it. just start a new partition and install there.

It's not XP that's Lame, it Virtual PC that completely sucks. Use VMware, problem solved.

I agree he is trolling. He sent me a nasty e-mail telling me I'm not helpful at all. As he said he's "jesting". Troll. Waste of time.

Yup I'm a 'troll' because I think the results I'm getting are pretty strange or 'lame' as I put them. Fan boys don't like what I have to say from my experience can simply deal with it. If I'm immature for calling a product lame, honestly all the fanboys coming to his defense with flaming and rude comments seems pretty immature - it's a product, not a social movement or way of life... Any Apple fan boys that wanna hop in and flame the crap out of Windows? No? Good.. Moving on...

netties001, ya I already got that copy of windows installed via dual boot on this system. But I'm tired of having to reinstall it every time I change my partition tables and such, it's just in the way. I wanted to stick it in Virtual PC and just boot it up when needed to go online and test things in IE6.

It's worked before in VM, and on Vista. It works in this system if I was to install it ON the system not V-PC. It'll work on some of my other systems and others give the same errors. That's why I said it's being 'lame' - entirely mixed results no matter what.

Gobmonster, it always performed like it would on it's own system. But I don't need performance, just the IE6 browser to view the net for testing.

I haven't used Virtual PC, only VMWare, but I've seen this error when a PC has a bad memory stick. Are there memory settings in Virtual PC? If so you should have a look at the settings.
