I just had my laptop stolen, but I'm getting a replacement in the next few weeks, ordered without an operating system. I have the XP Pro CD from my stolen computer still, so can I just install windows as is off of that CD and I'll be able to register with microsoft, or do I have to somehow report my computer stolen to them so that the person that stole my computer can't get any support?

You will have to contact Microsoft to explain the situation and they will try and sort something out.

They may disable the old Registration Key which the stolen laptop was registered with, meaning you will nolonger be able to activate that code that came with the boxed CD again, BUT they will issue you with a new Key to use and activate that one for you so you will be able to register the new one after the installation.

Someone correct me if I am wrong
