I would like to know what the majority recommends I get and why, vista home premium 32bit or vista ultimate 64bit? The OS will be on a Dv6500t with the fallowing options.

    Intel T7700 2.4Ghz
    Nividia 8400M GS
1GB of RAM but will upgrade to 4GB as soon as I get it
    160GB HD
With all the other options available.

Also witch brand of RAM do you recommend, I was looking into Patriot, and Crucial.

Home Premium. You don't need "Ultimate" and 64-bit just means more driver headaches and reduced(!) performance due to said drivers.

RAM brand doesn't matter. As long as they aren't some fly-by-night company, you'll get good RAM.

I'd go with vista business, if i'm not mistaken just about all of the home features can easily be supplimented with third party software.

I agree, 64-bit with a mature OS like XP is said to be a headache as it is.

it all depends how long into the future you are looking........Ill be running xp home until they no longer support it, i dont need flash......but if you are a feature bug Im sure that within the next 8 months most vista's (including ultimate) will be more supportive

Wait not so fast, oh sorry yea. Unless you need to hook into a network that only supports bussiness or ultimate but then get 32 bit version.

I liked Vista Basic on my laptop so much I decided to upgrade to Ultimate, just to see if it could handle it. It Did. AND I liked it. Now both computers run Ultimate. It may not be for everyone but your laptop will support it. And before long you will have heard from all your friends all the cool features of Ultimate and wished you bought it.

    Hey..Witch OS? :D

Use Home Premium for the best bang for your buck. Ultimate is way too expensive and you can live without Microsoft's silly extras (ahem language packs)

The feature in XP that allowed the last logged on user's name to be blanked out is missing until you get to Business or Ultimate. That is the only thing missing from Home Premium that I would have liked to have used.
