I reinstalled Windows Vista today to remove dell's bloatware following this guide:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=2801714#post2801714

After I reinstalled I installed Comodo firewall and AVG antivirus. After that
I tried to use windows update and all went well until it rebooted and configuring the updates took a very long time. Now when I look at the update history it shows that only two were successful and the rest failed. I saw another post with a similar problem and tried most of the things suggested there but they didn't help and I'm not sure it was the same problem. Please help!

    UPDATE: Problem fixed! :)

Incase anyone has the same problem to fix it first I looked at all the error codes in the history log, most were something like 800f0826. That code means something else caused the error so you have to find one that failed and doesn't have that code. (800f0816 seems to be one you already did but i'm not sure...) When you find it download it from the microsoft download center and install it manually.

After that I downloaded the rest of the failed updates in groups of 10-15 and it worked. I did not try in between these two attempts to fix it so I don't know which fixed it but there is no harm in doing both :)
