Currently I use windows mail on my inspiron. It's set up with my important email account in order to have quicker access to my email. All the email gets downloaded to my computer. It's basically Outlook. My question is how do I save it (the emails) and put it on my new computer. I have a new laptop (Alienware M17X) in production. I want to transfer my emails over to the new laptop when it gets to me. I went through and deleted all the junk out of the email server by actually logging in online so that when I get on my new computer it can download them if I have to. But the messages I've sent won't be on the server. I'd rather just do it myself so I don't lose any email traffic. If anyone knows how to save them and get them to the new laptop I would appreciate some advice. Thanks again. Hopefully I was able to explain that well enough

Isn't there an export function in Outlook. I'm not using it for a long time now but I think there is...

An easy way is to drag and drop them into a folder :p

Well, the first obstacle is THERE IS NO WINDOWS MAIL on Windows 7, which I am guessing you will have on your laptop

OK, that said, you can either put Windows Mail from a Vista on your computer following these instructions:

    http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/06/05/download-windows-mail-from-vista-for-use-in-windows-7/

Or you can download Windows Live Mail

    http://download.live.com/wlmail?wa=wsignin1.0

With that out of the way, n your old computer, navigate to
    C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail

Copy everything to a flash drive

On your new computer, load Windows Mail or Windows Live Mail above, then go to FILE > IMPORT > MESSAGES and follow the wizard until you get to the browse button and point to your flash drive

Why transfer the mail manually, when Live Mail automatically downloads it from your account? Am I missing something here?

Depends how many emails you got in the account, redownloading 300+ emails is a pain, although it takes less time with my connection, its still easier to just backup and restore them.
