I'm not sure if this is possible, but I will ask anyways. Right now I have a windows XP professional workstation that is on a domain based network with active directory. I want to replace this workstation, which I personally own, with another one running vista x64 ultimate. Is there any way to get the new computer to appear to be part of the domain rather than a workgroup, without domain admin. (I can't exactly ask the networks admins to do this for me as they wouldn’t approve of me replacing my workstation, long story don’t ask. ) I have tried swapping computer before, but the windows xp domain wizard never lets me join and I have confirmed with the IT guys that "only they can add a machine". So I’m guessing configuring it will have be done some backchannel way. Anyways any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!

You can't join a domain without the proper credentials. Besides, you don't have permission to swap a work machine with your personal machine. Network admins have very good reasons for not allowing what you are trying to do.

Yep. Also, because discussion related bypassing security measures are against the forum rules, this thread is now closed. If you want to use your personal machine, then convince the network admins.
