    Can anyone please help?

Am trying to load XP Pro onto my laptop but it hangs saying "35 minutes to complete setup" and wont move forward.

How do I exit from it so I can get into safemode and boot from my Recovery Discs?

I've tried going into BIOS to get it to boot from the cd drive but the setup installation keeps coming back onto the screen and screwing eveything up.

    TIA.

is there still what appears to be activity? Or is it frozen completely?

    What laptop?
Installation problems can sometimes be attributed to bad memory, have you run any memory diagnostics?

???? "load XP pro" - instal XP pro? - guessing from what follows...

    Safe mode? what safe mode?

    You somehow have me confused...

Apart from that, your error can be caused by plenty of things... post some details please.
