Interesting. I wonder how much more SP3 will add? I know SP2 was a significant feature upgrade, what with the firewall being started BEFORE the networking (imagine that...), getting the security center, etc.

I dunno, but I have a bad feeling it will end up being just a big security rollup and little else. We'll probably see Vista's SP1 first..........

With MS pushing Visit like sliced bread I think you're right. SP1 is priority, there's a lot of small things that need fixing.

Microsoft keeps pushing back XP service pack 3, the original date was supposed to be the middle of 2006 then it was supposed to be first quarter 2007 now I am hearing that it won't be ready until (at the earliest) first quarter 2008 :( have a look at microsoft's service pack road map here. All of these delays are probably due to the programmers being pulled to work on vista SP1 which in microsoft's eyes is more important right now. They probably want to put all the focus on Vista and not have an XP service pack come out in a Vista launch year.

Actually, SP4 is the most current for Win2K (and required for the extended support phase). I doubt XP will even see an SP4 for the remainder of it's mainstream lifecycle (ending 4/14/09).

I highly doubt SP3 for XP will offer anything but security patches. I doubt they will release any new features. Why would they? They want you to purchase Vista, so they will give Vista the features, not XP. Also, we will undoubtedly see Vista SP1 before XP SP3.

I was unaware that they were even going to release a SP3, though.

Actually, that SP is for Office XP, not Office 2003. Although most people are not aware of it, there is a difference. Office 2003 offers a new GUI interface and more features.
