I am trying to reload windows XP Pro onto an old Compaq Armada m700. I have a retail copy of XP Pro (2002). I tried making a slipstream sp2 disc, and it would not load windows correctly. It came up with tons of missing file messages, and it did not load the system folder of many devices. I tired running it again to no avail. I figured I did something wrong in the slipstream process (not like its so complicated or anything) and decided to use my old disk. It loaded windows just fine, which made me suspicious. After hours of downloading updates just to get to the point of sp2, I could not get sp2 to to load. I get file corrupted over and over again. I should point out that I have to download the IT version to another partition on my small drive (I want the c partition to be just windows, so I choose a 4 Gb primary, in hopes of using Acronis to make a nice little image to back up). I have tried three times to download the sp2, twice as a file, and once by running from the download prompt. Every time I get the file corrupted message. Dang M$! I sent them a message regarding this matter, but I thought I might run it here too.
Has anyone elese had this issue? If so how was it solved? I guess I may have to order the sp2 disc, but that sucks, and its slow!

it is possible you dont have enough HDD space, as you computer will require space to decompress the sp2?

you will get write errors when the hdd is full, but windows normally warns you that you are running out of space first.

how big is you hdd alltogether.

    regards.

    John.

I've never had a problem downloading anything from Microsoft. Tinderbox might be right. Make sure there's enough room on your C: drive for the temp file while it's being downloaded.

My second partition is about 7 Gb. Plenty of space for the decompression. The issue is when it decompresses, I get a file is corrupt error dialog box. The files are decompressing to my E; drive, which has plenty of space. Is the issue that I am opening it in another partition other than the primary C:? If that is the case, then I need to get partition magic or some other program to change the size of my partitions. Does any one know of a program I could download that would do the trick? BTW I have the temporary internet folder on the secondary partition, not on the C:, due to space issues.

OK. So you were able to download WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe from Microsoft, which is about 266 MB in size. Then when you run the WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe /x command in a Command Prompt window to extract the files, you're getting a corrupt file dialog box?

Yes, I download the file to my d: partition, and then I used the double click to decompress it, not the command line... could that be the issue or is it because it is not on the primary partition.
I am concerned that the file is bad since my slipstreamed win xp pro disk failed to load windows... I have not had an issue with that before.

Try a manual extraction from a Command Prompt window with the command I gave above.
