When was the last time your Windows Vista got updated through Windows Update? The last time mine got updated was 09/29/2009, and every time I try to run it it says that there are no updates available. Is this normal or I have some problem related to that?

Yeah, LLS, I think you may have a problem. I get Windows Vistas very frequently, usually every few days or at least once a week. At the very least, there is a single "Windows Defender" update, and more frequently there are multiple securities updates and software updates as well.

I also got those updates frequently, but now it doesn't catch anything, even when I perform manual searches...

I think it might be related with Microsoft Security Essentials, it was installed 09/30/2009 and since then the only updates were MSE related, not for Windows. I am going back to Avira and see what happens.

I have just uninstalled MSE and installed Avira Free, and it detected a Windows Defender update inmediately. Weird thing this one...

    No.

I believe fellow members pointed out hat MSE disables Windows Defender.
(WD is sort of misleading... = Windows Defender & Western Digital)

Thus, if you run MSE you will no longer get WD updates.

Well it's normal for me. I usually only get updates once a month. Once in a great while there may be some extra updates, but that hardly ever happens.

every 2nd tuesday of every month... expect updates. other updates are only released if extremely critical (expect for windows defender) and are more rare...

sounds like ur fine to me.

Nothing weird, by uninstalling MSE you re-enabled Windows Defender. You should get a slew of Microsoft updates and patches tomorrow.

Thanks for your answers guys. I didn't think that the reason was that Defender was disabled and the only udates that had taken place were those.

I think that I'll stick with Avira anyway, but thanks for your info.
