well heres what happened. i tried to install zone alarm. and just when it was about to finish the installation my computer screen turned blue. i could not read the error because it would restart itself and not giving me enough time to read it. but anyways i knew it was zone alarm because every time it would start up the screen would go blue. so i booted into xp and deleted zone alarm from my vista partition. but when i booted into vista everything was fine. until i tried to connect online. (im on my xp os right now) for some reason it says that everything is normal but i cant connect. but i can see all my printers and other computers on the network, but cant connect online. i tried to do a system recovery but damn vista does not automatically create restore points.

    what to do......

okay... 2ways to get a error code
1: hit the pause/break button to pause the screen however this might not work because i never tried except during the boot up
2: if you have a cam corder record the screen and rewind and view. you get the idea
    ________
if you are saying that the internet isn;t working and blue screen doesnt appear. try 2 ways:
1:delete the driver from the driver manager. and reinstall..
2:get a firefox and run it on the comp(detects the problem better). also current internet explorer lets you to view what is the problem

the last one is not recommended but...
back up the all folders in vista or move it to the window xp
    and reinstall the whole vista

damn i was hoping on not using the last one, but its not the first time this has happened. i already deleted all the files from zone alarm so i dont get the error. and i already deleted and reinstalled the driver, from the driver manager. no solution. also i have both firefox and IE and both are saying the same thing. i also tried other programs like avg update it says that theres no internet connection. but when i tried to find the solution in IE it said that i am already connected. man is vista so messed up.

yup, no dice. whats weird is that the zonealarm (download.com) said that that was for vista so i downloaded it. i dont remember any bad reviews of it either. i guess its conflicting with something else.

i dunno about the dns.... if you screw up, it hard to get out without the original.... also it is set as automatic.
i think i have an idea but.... install the zone alarm again with vista version
because i had porblem like that. the zone alarm mustve blocked the internet from accesing so you have permit it to do so

Did you do Windows Update? Or is it set to automatically update? This sounds like the main symptom for the update I mentioned above.

Re-installing Vista is the best first step. Hopefully, it will take care of the issue.

If not, you may need to reflash the BIOS as the microcode update affected teh CPU.

Hey I have the exact same problem. First time it happened I just re-installed vista, then it updated and it happened again. Course I didnt realise i was the windows updater that was doing this.. took me a while.

Earlier today I reinstalled again and updated bit by bit. Then I got a bunch of updates including one for the card reader and some other ones. I was blessed with the BlueScreen.

However when I tried to show how quickly the blue screen flashed by to my flatmate.. Vista just ran..havent tried turning it off again yet.

I'm pretty glad I'm not the only one with this problem though. Kinda frustrating as my vostro's just a few weeks old.

Ok further updates, I talked to a guy who's had this problem on different OEM versions of Vista. Apparently you shouldn't allow windows update to get new drivers for you. Just get them from the Dell site itself.

drivers in a NO for windows update unless its you have no other choice for obtain drivers

you should only use WU to download Vista security fixes/patches.
