The Windows team is readying second service packs (SP2) for Vista and for its server complement, Windows Server 2008 and is aiming to deliver these SP2s before it releases Windows 7.

some common reports go like this....
So, does this mean Vista SP2 is gonna come out *pretty* soon? Since Windows 7 public beta is scheduled to be handed out to select few, developers, testers and such, sometime in Mid-december.... And if M$ wants to get out SP2 before that, then thats gonna happen pretty soon, right? May be second/third week of November?

The Windows 7 public beta is actually a pre-beta, perhaps even alpha. I think there will be more than enough time for Vista/SP2 to be out before W7 is GA.

I don't see anything big they could possibly add to it for SP2 so I am a bit surprised that it is coming out so soon.

Well, if they severely optimize Vista (not to mention DX 10 which was a mere marketing ploy to begin with) with this service pack 2, reduce some hardware demands/bloatware, fix compatibility issues with programs (the ones that worked on XP and refuse to do so in Vista), not to mention increase it's performance to actually surpass XP by a good margin ... then it might be worth looking into.

I'm hoping for HD movie capabilities and upgraded TV capabilities in VMC, but that might have to wait for Win7.

All I really want is for my folders in all drives to all remember to show up in list view when I set it to be so.
