Hey everyon, i have a quick question:

I have a copy of vista 32/64 and xp 32/64 pro kicking around. I just ordered a Clevo m860tu and i am curious which version of xp or vista i should put on when i get it. The main intent of this laptop is for programming and games games games.... and more games. :D is either vistar or xp 64 reliable to use as main OS yet? for games...?

I've been using x64 Vista for gaming and everyday stuff for over a year now. No issues. I also don't play games that are 7 years old, though.

I got this Laptop to work on and play new games.

Yes running 64 bit, no problem. But if I do have a little problem (like some lag or slow down), I use one of my spare USB sticks (2gb) and use that as a Ready Boost.

I am using Vista x64 and have not had much problems with gaming. I have some older games that are 3 to 5 years old or more, that I play, like Warcraft III, NWN, Rayman 3, etc that all work fine. I am having a weird pixel coloring issue with Starcraft, but that might be the same with all versions of Vista. But Starcraft still installs and runs.

Be aware that you will run into some problems with older games that have 16 bit installers. Thats the problem with some of the older games, they use these 16 bit installers which you can't get past to install the game, with a 64 bit OS. I had this problem with 2 old games that I have, but I found a way around this as well by searching online.

BTW - Readyboost is where you can use a USB flash drive as like extra memory for Vista to use so it will be faster. From what I have read, if you have 2GB of RAM or more, Readyboost is useless.

If strictly for gaming then either Vista 64-bit or XP 32-bit. If you use Vista (which I recommend), you should use 64-bit to take advantage of 4+ GB of RAM. If you use XP, use 32-bit because the 64-bit version is pretty unstable.
