Ok so I havn't toyed with it long, but I recently re-imaged my M17x R2. When I was in the process of doing everything the system was down for a week. Well during that time Windows Live mail was updated. I perfered Windows Live Mail as that was what I was using. Now I Have it updated to Windows Live Mail 2011. I imported all my old email and folders. I've tried setting up my mail rules. you know " move messeges from this person to this folder" ect. Problem is, when I get an email now, it all goes to the inboxes. On Windows Live, these rules worked like a charm. Now on Windows Live Mail 2011, they don't. Anyone have a similiar experience? Suggestions?

I'm using this with my AKO Army email, so it would be nice to be able to get it to work. Maybe there is a way to revert back?

Finally got it working. Does anyone else use this software or am I the only one? What are everyones thoughts on Windows Live mail 2001, vs. the older version, Windows Live Mail? I'm not sure I like this new stuff. I hate change :(

I toyed with using WLM with the release of Wave 4. But I gave up the idea since I am wholly on Gmail. Optimally, I would have liked to use Outlook 2010, but my Office edition (H&S version) does not have it. I think the calendar facility in Outlook 2010 combined with the updated email features would have been useful. WLM 2011 does not have a calendar - so this was one problem. I did try TB (the latest version (3.x or something)) with the Litening Calendar. But it felt too clumsy. One of the key problems is being dedicated to Gmail. The sheer volume of emails collected there makes downloading and managing them in a local client somewhat difficult (for me). But then again, the convenience is something to be considered. In my specific case, I think an off-line Gmail capability (which was available through Gears) would serve me best. Personally, I think I would find it difficult to migrate to the WLM platform.

Yea, I get a lot of emails, but I like being able to download them and back them up, since the server only limits me to 100MB  Since it's my army email. I just am not used to WLM 2011 since it has all the new features, and I can't find the things I like to customize right off the bat. I may give it another shot.

Re: Calendar in WLM...I don't think it works in as integrated a way as the Calendar in Outlook 2010 does, does it?

OK. Let me give it a shot and see how it works. The last time I tried it was when Wave 4 was in beta. If this fails, I will probably opt for Offline Gmail.

One quick question about WLM 2011:

I have a lot of contacts in my Gmail. How do I access them through WLM2011? In TB, I did not have to do anything (if I remember correctly) - the contacts info was there automatically. How does this work in WLM 2011?

Exporting the csv file (in Excel) from Gmail does not seem to work.

    Thanks

Edit: I downloaded WLM 2011 and gave it a shot. As mentioned above ran into a problem with importing contacts (though that is not really too much of a concern). I do like the Calendar function (so, I retract my statement). The layout seems for the most part clean. But I reverted back to Offline Gmail, which I think is a more efficient solution under the circumstances.

Another update. In addition to Offline Gmail, I re-downloaded WLM 2011 and imported my mails from my Gmail account.

Re: Calendar: I was completely wrong in this. However, I am yet to try out the Calendar to its fullest potential.

One think I noticed is that importing mails into WLM took a lot of time. It was much faster with Offline Gmail (though only 1 year's worth of mail was downloaded).

I do like how WLM looks. Let's see if it works as well.

My issue I'm having with WLCM 2011, is that when I change the email storage folder to my third HDD, storage drive, (M17x in sig) I get a corrupted calender data message. I'm not sure why, but it's kinda agrivating. I uninstall WLM 2011, reinstall, and it's still there. It won't open the program due to the error because it forces the system to close it. Twice today I have had to secure erase, and re-image my SSD Raid array  I'm just going to let it store the email on the SSDs, and then export backups every few weeks or so. My preferance would be to have it run on the SSDs, but store the email on the HDD.

I've done it before, you can choose where the email is stored in the options, but now it's currupted so I had to re-image a few times. Now I'm giving up because uninstalling won't even work. Because when I reinstall, it gives me the same error so it must be somthing messed up in the registry. Never tried a registry cleaner though now that I think of it

Do you know how I can download ALL my mails from Gmail such that I read them offline? As of now, it appears that only some of the mail is downloaded though during the initial setup I found WLM downloading all the mail in my Gmail account. Now when I try to access older emails, I get a message saying that the mail is not available in offline mode and I must go online to access it. When I do go online, I can read the mail. What I want is to read all my mails online AND offline. How would I do that?

    People actually can access AKO?

I've been locked out for over seven months.

As far as being able to download all your email, I'm not sure. Maybe they are in differant folders and that is causing an issue? I know with my AKO email, WLM will download all of whats in the inbox, and thats it.

As far as acessing AKO< yup, it's my main email. I have a differant one for all the spam and signups for ordering things online, ect. AKO works well for me through WLM 2011

OK. Things seem to have stabilized for now and WLM 2011 seems to be working well. I have tried "Offline" mode and I could open all emails dating back to 2005. As things stand, I quite like WLM (which also means I retract my previous statement on this matter). As a matter of fact, I had set up Gmail for offline access using Gears. My experience was OK - offline work was a bit sluggish but to be honest, I am bored of the Gmail interface. So, I uninstalled it completely from my machine. Now, WLM serves me Gmail to me and - touch wood! - things are working well despite some initial hiccups.

Glad to hear you got it working well. I really like it just for the sheer convinience it provides by being able to access all email from my computer and not have to hop on a website. Plus having rules to drop new email in various folders helps a lot since I have folders for everything. I suppose if I used other email accounts for anything but spam, it would also be nice to be able to access multiple acos from one program.

I'll never forget the joy of buying a CAC reader thinking I would finally regain AKO access only to be prompted for my original CAC PIN, something lost even longer than my most recent AKO password.

I know I can just call that 800 number but still.
