Im going all out on antispyware now! I found my first 2 trojans today and i have a feeling they made firefox go crazy! I had AVG, Spybot and Ad-Aware, but it didnt help. I did a scan with adaware and spybot which revealed nothing. Its only when I did a "scan every file" avg scan did it pick it up. I now have spyware blaster and am thinking of getting defender but wanted a few opinions first. Is it a resource hog? Is the beta buggy? I notice that you have to be part of some spynet community, what information is gathred?

    Thanks for the info.

The spynet community doesn't gather any personal information (that's the claim at least) and you can actually opt out of it during installation.

the defender/spyware combo is pretty strong, but that spynet can be stopped by not allowing your data to be sent to them.

    ok thats a relief!

Does defender take up a lot of resources? I dont want it to slow down my laptop because its already quite slow!

    Thanks.

windows defender is very good. with the real time protection. i use it and the realtime protection is great. very light on the resources. its an extra defense but with an updated spyware blaster i think your safe. im wondering did you install spyware blaster before or after your firefox went crazy?
no bugs yet. not bad for a beta by the way. and it also notifies you of changes within your system. like when you install stuff and the like.

    just my 2 cents

I think I will get defender tonight. My main worry is that the real time protection will really slow down my already **** system.

I installed spyware blaster after firefox stopped working. The thing i dont understand is that Ad-Aware nor Spybot found the trojans that AVG found. I would have thought that they would have found the trojans and AVG would have missed them. The trojans were in the firefox browser cache but were in archives so AVG couldnt clean them out? I just deleted the folder because i was p**sed with firefox.

What other programs can i install to make my system bulletproof? Is WinPatrol any good? Doesnt that take system resources aswell?

I use Defender and it works OK, not a resource hog....I have 1GB memory though. My combo is Avast!,Defender and XP firewall...works good.
No matter what you install, be sure to use only ONE program for each need.....if you use more than one program for Spyware you will kill resources and even make your system more vulnerable. You should uninstall Spyware Blaster before using Defender....IMO that's the resource-firendly and safe way to go.

Not a resource hog my ass! it takes up a fifth of my RAM!!! Its two files in the background are taking up a net 39.77MB!!! Thats outrageous!

Im gona stick with it for a while and see how it goes but i have a feeling its gona get uninstalled soon.

Think its worth keeping without realtime protection?
